How to Commision a Portrait

If you are interested in commissioning a portrait of your pet, please complete the information requested on the Contact form.  I’ve listed more detailed information below to help you get started.  I am also available to answer any questions you may have.  I look forward to helping you perfectly picture your pet!

Photographs:

I work from photographs, (preferably digital formats:  jpg, png, tif), that you provide via email, if possible. Photographs need to be clear and in focus, with the subject as large as possible, to allow for the most detail to be captured in the drawing of your pet.  You may send multiple photographs to provide a sense of your pet’s personality that can be expressed in the portrait.  I will only draw what can be seen in the photograph, so please be sure to include those parts of your pet that you want to be included in the portrait (i.e. face, neck, full body).

Once all of the details concerning the portrait are agreed upon, (i.e. the appropriate format (portrait, landscape) and size), I will  require a 20%, non-refundable deposit, to secure your commission, (see the Pricing section below for more information).

Works In Progress:

My aim is to picture your pet perfectly.  If you would like to see a photograph of the initial sketch, I will be happy to email that to you for comments.  I will also email a photograph of the finished work prior to receipt of the balance of payment.

Timing:

The normal turnaround I allow for completing a portrait from receipt of your deposit, is two weeks; the shipping time is additional. Please let me know if you need your portrait by a particular date. I will do my best to accommodate shorter turnaround times in special instances.

Mounting:

The standard drawing sizes listed below will enable you to use off-the-shelf mounts or frames. A margin will also be included on all four sides of the drawing to allow for framing. If you would like your drawing to be mounted, that can be arranged for an additional charge.  This can be discussed when you place your order.

Use of Image:

By commissioning a portrait of your pet, you agree, and grant permission, that I can use images of the portrait on my website, social media, and/or for other types of advertising. I will never share personal information about you or your pet, except, with permission, including your pet’s name to images used for the purposes listed above. If your commission is a gift, please let me know so that I can wait until after it has been gifted to use the image.  Please also let me know if you strongly object to me using images of your pet’s portait in any way, as I will certainly respect your wishes.

Pricing:

All graphite pencil portraits are drawn on smooth, bright white Bristol Board  in the three standard sizes listed below. As mentioned above, a margin will be included on all four sides of the drawing to allow for framing.  If you would like a custom size, we can discuss the pricing for those options as well.  Prices DO NOT include Shipping & Handling, (see additional costs in that section below).

Shipping & Handling:

The costs for shipping and handling are dependent upon the size of your portrait and whether or not it has been mounted, as well as the destination location.  These costs will be confirmed prior to commencement of the commision.

Payments:

Commissions will be secured upon receipt of a non-refundable 20% deposit.  The completed portrait will be shipped upon receipt of the balance due.  Payment is accepted in check (portrait will be sent once the check has cleared) or PayPal (details available upon request).
